Ambassador Mulimbika Commends Potential of DOKODEMO Cabin for Strengthening Zambia’s Health Sector During Visit to Kanda Package Co., Ltd.

Tokyo – 15th June 2025 – Zambia’s Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Tobias Mulimbika says the DOKODEMO Cabin a mobile, modular unit designed for healthcare and emergency response is a valuable solution for strengthening Zambia’s rural health outreach and disaster preparedness.

Speaking during an official visit to the manufacturer of the cabin, Kanda Package Co., Ltd. factory in Fukushima Prefecture, Ambassador Mulimbika said the technology could greatly support Zambia’s health system, especially during emergencies such as cholera outbreaks and floods.

He said plans for the DOKODEMO Cabin to be manufactured in Zambia with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) are progressing well.

“Discussions between the company and Ministry of health and Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit are underway and we hope to see this being implemented as soon as possible”, he said.

Ambassador Mulimbika was received by the Governor of Fukushima Prefecture Mr. Yanagi Ttsuya and the Mayor of Sukagawa City, Mr. Masaaki Otera, who both expressed commitment to supporting the partnership. The Governor highlighted the importance of the DOKODEMO Cabin in Fukushima’s own disaster response efforts and welcomed its planned introduction in Zambia.

Accompanied by JICA officials from the Nihonmatsu Training Center, the Ambassador toured the factory and participated in the assembly of a demonstration cabin alongside Mayor Otera.

The CEO of Kanda Package Co., Ltd., Mr. Masahiko Kanda, shared the company’s background and their previous engagement in Zambia under JICA’s SDGs Business Needs Survey. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding ties with Zambia for mutual development.

Ambassador Mulimbika applauded the company’s innovation and encouraged Kanda Package Co. Ltd to establish local operations in Zambia, noting the opportunity to access the wider SADC market.

He also proposed technical collaboration between Zambia’s Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and authorities in Fukushima to enhance Zambia’s disaster resilience.

The Ambassador’s visit was aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between Zambia and Japan in healthcare, technology transfer, and disaster management.
